Modder adds Noctua fans to their RTX 5080, making their GPU near-silent

Gamer adds Noctua fans to their RTX 5080 GPU to deliver near-silent gaming

A PC gamer called aartr has managed to craft a near-silent GeForce RTX 5080 graphics card. This mod replaces the stock fans from Gigabyte’s RTX 5080 Gaming OC GPU with three Noctua fans (two 120mm and one 92mm).

Thanks to this mod, aartr has managed to clock their RTX 5080 at 3150 MHz under load with a TDP of 400 watts while keeping their GPU below 74 degrees. Better still, the GPU is quieter than before. Now, aartr can only hear “slight coil while” when gaming on their PC.

While the card is already very cool and silent, the minimum 30% fan speed was still audible. Luckily the shroud is removable without taking off the heat sinks (albeit a little tricky) by unscrewing a single screw in each corner of the card.

The fans are all connected using a single 2.0mm JST-PHD 2×6 connector. I used an amazon connector kit to build a custom fan harness. I’ve attached a pinout of the female connector in the last picture if anyone wants to make their own harness. The fans are joined by a 3d printed bracket that can be found here: https://www.printables.com/model/1342623-120-x-92-x-120-pc-fan-joiner

I’ve OC’d the card to run at a constant ~3150 MHz with around 400watts of usage during Steel Nomad the temps don’t exceed 74c at around 1250RPM (using a custom fan profile). At this point the slight coil whine is the loudest noise coming from the card.

For those who want to mod their graphics cards in a similar way, the “PC fan joiner” that aartr used is available on Printables to download. This means that anyone with a 3D printer can replicate these mods without any issues.

For those interested in a genuine “Noctua Edition” RTX 5080, it’s worth noting that ASUS showcased such a GPU at Computex 2025. ASUS plans to release its RTX 5080 Noctua Edition GPU later this year. This graphics card features three fans, all of which are Noctua A12x25 G2 fans.
