Disney+ price Hike hits the UK

Disney’s latest price hike isn’t inflation; it’s greed

Disney has officially rolled out its latest round of price increases to customers in the UK, with both its “Standard” and “Standard with ads” tiers seeing £1 per month increases. Premium tier subscribers, who get 4K HDR streaming across four devices, have seen their charges increase by £2 per month. This gives us the following prices for Disney+ in the UK.

  • Disney+ Standard with Ads – Was £4.99 PM – Now £5.99 PM (20% increase)
  • Disney+ Standard – Was £8.99 PM – Now £9.99 PM (11.1% increase)
  • Disney+ Standard – Was £89.90 Yearly – Now £99.90 Yearly (11.2% increase)
  • Disney+ Premium – Was £12.99 PM – Now £14.99 PM (15.4% increase)
  • Disney+ Premium – Was £129.90 Yearly – Now £149.99 Yearly (15.4% increase)

With price increases ranging from 11.2% to 20%, Disney’s price hikes are significantly higher than inflation. These new prices are already in place for new Disney+ subscribers and will impact existing subscribers next month. Monthly subscribers will see bill increases on/after November 4th. Annual subscribers will see price increases on their bills on/after November 25th.

With video streaming becoming most costly/fragmented, it is easy to see why media piracy is on the rise. These price increases are much higher than inflation, making them hard to justify. Disney+ launched in the UK at a price of £5.99 per month, which included 4K streaming and no ads. Today, that package is called Disney+ Premium, and it costs £14.99 per month. Today, £5.99 gets you 1080p streaming on fewer devices with ads.
