All 600/800 series AMD AM5 motherboards should support Zen 6 – leaker claims
AMD AM5 600/800 series motherboards with 32MB and 64MB will support AMD’s Zen 6 CPUs
Motherboard manufacturers have started to release AMD AM5 800-series motherboards with larger 64MB BIOS ROMs, with many of these motherboards being marketed as supporting “next-generation” or “Zen 6” CPUs. This has led many to wonder if AMD’s older AM5 600 and 800 series motherboards will support AMD’s next-generation Ryzen processors.
According to the leaker, HXL, users of AMD AM5 motherboards with 32MB and 64MB ROM sizes will support AMD’s next-generation Zen 6 CPUs. However, that doesn’t mean that 64MB ROMs have no advantages.
Why 64MB ROMs matter
Having a larger BIOS ROM allows manufacturers to fit more data in their BIOS files. This data can be used to support more CPU models and features. Furthermore, these larger ROMs can be used to include other data. For example, these ROMs can include WIFI drivers. This makes Windows installations much easier, as Windows 11 does not include drivers for most modern WIFI 6/6E/7 chips. That means that users need to install these drivers manually. That’s bad news given Windows 11’s lack of offline install options.
Having larger BIOS ROMs can provide PC builders with a better user experience. If drivers are included on the ROM, users can install Windows 11 much faster. Furthermore, they don’t need a second device to download these drivers.

Will older Ryzen 600/800 AM5 motherboards support Zen 6?
With AMD AM4 motherboards, motherboards with larger ROM sizes started appearing towards the end of that socket’s life cycle. Motherboards with smaller ROMs began dropping support for older CPU models, and some transitioned to a less advanced graphical interface to save ROM space. The same may happen to 32MB AM5 motherboards.
Simply put, it would be a bad move for AMD to launch Zen 6 without legacy motherboard support. Locking this support to 64MB ROM motherboards would be a slap in the face to many loyal Ryzen fans. If AMD wants to maintain consumer goodwill, all AM5 motherboards must support Zen 6 through BIOS updates.
