Steam userbase doubled since 2020 – New concurrent peak reached
Steam has reached a new concurrent user peak of 41.6 million, with over 13 million users in-game
Valve has successfully reached a new peak user count of over 41.6 million gamers, with over 13 million users in-game. This latest peak could be attributed to the release of Battlefield 6, which is currently one of Steam’s top 5 most-played games. Valve has more than doubled its Steam concurrent user count since 2020, despite competition from the Epic Games Store and Xbox PC Game Pass.
This new peak highlights Steam’s continued growth. Since 2020, the Steam userbase has more than doubled in size, reaching 18 million concurrent users in January 2020. Now, the platform has reached a peak that is over 2.2 times higher. PC gaming is alive and well, and the release of the now current-gen consoles did nothing to slow Steam’s growth.

The past few years have been good to Steam. Publishers like Xbox, EA, and Ubisoft have all returned to Steam after periods of exclusivity on their own PC storefronts. Valve remains the top dog in the PC space, despite all attempts to dethrone the company.
