Faster X3D, AMD confirms Ryzen 7 9850X3D Gaming CPU

Boosted speeds for AMD’s flagship gaming CPU

AMD has updated its website with references to an unreleased gaming CPU called the Ryzen 7 9850X3D. This confirms prior leaks of a planned Zen 5 X3D refresh from AMD. This refresh reportedly includes two new gaming CPUs, the Ryzen 7 9850X3D and Ryzen 9 9950X3D2.

The Ryzen 7 9850X3D is reportedly a faster version of AMD’s Ryzen 7 9800X3D. It reportedly features a boost clock of 5.6 GHz, which is 400 MHz faster than AMD’s Ryzen 7 9800X3D. That’s a 7.69% increase in maximum clock speed. This gives AMD’s CPU lineup a notable bump in performance. Better still, this bump will apply to both gaming and generic workloads.

AMD’s Ryzen 9 9950X3D2, while unconfirmed, reportedly features a 5.6 GHz boost clock speed and two V-Cache-enhanced CCDs. This sixteen-core CPU also reportedly features boost clock speeds of 5.6 GHz. Note that the Ryzen9 9950X3D only has one CCD with AMD’s L3 V-Cache. Currently, it is unknown what the benefits of having two V-Cache enhanced chiplets are.

Rumour has it that AMD plans to release its refreshed X3D CPU lineup at CES 2026, securing AMD’s position as the world’s leading provider of gaming CPUs. These CPUs will counter Intel’s Arrow Lake Refresh, which will likely launch within a similar timeframe.
