Fallout New Vegas looks better than ever with this SSAO mod
Fallout New Vegas now looks much better thanks to this SSAO mod
A modder called “Pr0bability” has given Fallout New Vegas a welcome graphical upgrade, adding Screen Space Ambient Occlusion (SSAO) to the game with their new “Vanilla Plus AO” mod.
With this mod, New Vegas features more accurate shading, making the game’s environments look much more three-dimensional. This mod is an xNVSE (New Vegas Script Extender) plugin. This makes the mod easy to add to Fallout New Vegas. If you are already modding Fallout New Vegas, you are probably already using xNVSE.
This mod affects game performance. However, given how old New Vegas is, most modern gaming PCs will have no trouble running the game with this mod installed. There will be a performance hit, but it won’t be insane. This isn’t a ray tracing mod.
Adding Ambient Occlusion will make dark scenes even darker, but it will make the game look much less flat. While it won’t transform the game’s visuals, it will make the game look much better than before.
Gamers have been adding AO to Fallout New Vegas using various other mechanisms in the past. ENB mods and Reshade are popular options. However, this mod and its xNVSE plugin status make it an easier option for modders. xNVSE is a requirement for many Fallout New Vegas mods, which means that most New Vegas modders will already have it installed.
Fallout New Vegas’ Vanilla Plus AO mod is available to download through Nexus Mods.
