Philips unveils world’s first 1000 Hz gaming monitor

Philips’ Evnia 27M2N5500XD is the world’s first 1000 Hz gaming screen

Philips has just unveiled its fastest monitor to date, the Evnia 27M2N5500XD. The company claims that this is the world’s first 1000 Hz gaming monitor. Using dual-mode technology, this screen offers 1000 Hz HD mode and 500 Hz QHD (1440p) mode.

According to IT Home, this monitor has a 1ms GtG response time and a contrast ratio of 2000:1, suggesting it doesn’t use an OLED panel. The screen is DisplayHDR 400 certified and has a colour accuracy reference of ΔE < 2.

Note that this monitor’s 1000 Hz HD mode is HD (720p), not Full HD (1080p). This is a low resolution by today’s standards, making it unsuitable for gamers who want sharper visuals and not ultra-fast response times.

Philips’ new Evnia 27M2N5500XD highlights how fast display technology is evolving. It is only a matter of time before 1000 Hz refresh rates are achieved with higher-resolution screens. How long will it be before a 1000 Hz 1080p screen is released?
