Total War: Warhammer 40,000 is coming, and I’m hyped

Total War: Warhammer 40,000 is real, and it looks awesome

They did it, they skipped 39,996 Warhammers! Jokes aside, Total War: Warhammer 40,000 has been announced, confirming that the Total War franchise is coming to the grim dark future of the 41st millennium.

Given the success of Total War: Warhammer, it only makes sense for the series to transition to the more popular Warhammer 40,000 setting. As with any Total War game, players can expect deep turn-based strategy alongside epic real-time tactical battles. This new game will be the debut of Creative Assembly’s Warcore Engine, which brings new features, optimised performance, and enhanced visuals.

Based on the game’s trailer, which included small snippets of gameplay, Total War Warhammer 40K looks great. Better still, players can customise their forces with unique names, colour schemes, heraldry, traits and tactics. That means that Warhammer 40K tabletop fans can build a matching army in-game.

Total War on a galactic scale

So far, four armies have been unveiled for Total War: Warhammer 40,000. These are the Imperial Guard (Astra Militarum), Space Marines, Aeldari (space Elves) and the Orks. These factions will all feature wildly different playstyles in both the campaign map and battle modes. Each faction will have forces that range from standard battline infantry all the way to walkers, tanks, and colossal war engines. The trailer showcased a massive Ork Stompa, which towered over the game’s other units.

If you want large battles, this Warhammer 40K game has you covered. Players can battle against huge armies and either zoom in to see combat up close or zoom out to see the wider battlefield. Based on the available screenshots, this new Total War game is highly detailed, especially when zoomed in.

Sadly, Total War: Warhammer 40,000 has no release date. However, we do know that the game will be coming to both PC and consoles. The game is already listed on Steam, and Creative Assembly has promised a deeper dive into the game on December 16th. Note that this won’t be a big gameplay deep dive.
