AMD confirms Ryzen 7 9850X3D pricing and release date

AMD’s Ryzen 7 9850X3D launches on January 29th

AMD’s David McAfee has confirmed that the Ryzen 7 9850X3D will become available on January 29th. In the US, AMD is pricing the Ryzen 7 9850X3D at $499, giving it an MSRP just $20 higher than its Ryzen 7 9800X3D.

So what does that $20 get you? It gets gamers a CPU boost clock that is 400MHz higher than AMD’s Ryzen 7 9800X3D. That’s a 7.6% clock speed boost. That speed boost will help gamers achieve higher framerates, especially in single-threaded titles. With such a minor MSRP increase, gamers considering the Ryzen 7 9800X3D have a worthwhile upgrade option. Overall, AMD’s Ryzen 7 9850X3D has solid pricing. It’s a modest price increase for a notable performance upgrade.

How much AMD’s higher X3D clock speeds matter will depend on the games you play. Games like Counter-Strike 2 and Hogwarts Legacy have the largest improvements. That said, some titles will see minimal performance gains with AMD’s newest X3D CPU. Regardless, this should be AMD’s fastest pure gaming CPU until the release of Zen 6.
