AMD “Gorgon Halo” Ryzen AI Max 400 CPU specifications leak
AMD’s giving its “Halo” series CPUs a boost with planned “Gorgon Halo” models
It looks like AMD is planning to refresh its Strix Halo CPU lineup, giving its Zen 5 “Halo” lineup a performance boost with refined CPU models. This new lineup will offer similar benefits to AMD’s newly released Ryzen AI 400 series, but apply them to AMD’s Ryzen AI MAX series products. This means optimised power draw, higher clock speeds, and more. These new “Gorgon Halo” CPUs will become AMD’s “Ryzen AI MAX 400 Series” processor.
Gorgon Halo will utilise the same Zen 5 CPU cores, RDNA 3.5 graphics, and XDNA 2 NPU as today’s Strix Halo processor. AMD is expected to use the same CPU packaging, making it easy for OEMs to upgrade their product lines. With more mature silicon, these chips are expected to deliver higher sustained clock speeds and heightened performance levels. That said, their “on paper” specifications are broadly similar to their Strix Halo counterparts.

Other potential upgrades for Gorgon Halo
AMD’s Strix Halo CPUs support LPDDR5X memory at up to 8000 MT/s. With AMD’s new “Gorgon” refresh, the company could add support for faster LPDDR5X modules, boosting the chip’s overall performance. Since AI and gaming workloads can often be bandwidth-limited, a memory performance upgrade could be incredibly useful to customers. AMD’s Ryzen AI 400 series CPUs support up to LPDDR5X-8533 speeds. At a minimum, this is what I’d expect Gorgon Halo to support. Samsung has built LPDDR5x 9600 MT/s and 10,667 MHz modules, so even faster memory speeds could be possible.
Furthermore, AMD’s Gorgon Point (Ryzen AI 400) series CPUs feature NPUs that can deliver up to 60 TOPS of AI performance. A similar upgrade could be possible with AMD’s Ryzen AI Max Gorgon refresh.
