Leaker confirms OLED upgrade for Sony’s PlayStation Portal
Sony reportedly plans to release a new version of its PlayStation Portal this year
According to the leaker, Kepler _L2, Sony plans to launch an updated version of its popular PlayStation Portal streaming device this year. The new PlayStation Portal will reportedly feature an OLED screen and may feature some other upgrades.
The PlayStation Portal is a device that streams games from your PlayStation 5 or the cloud. This allows PlayStation owners to play games without being near their consoles and lets gamers stream PlayStation games on the go via cloud streaming.
With an OLED screen, the PlayStation Portal would benefit from improved image quality and motion response characteristics. Gamers should benefit from more vibrant colours, deeper blacks, reduced motion blur, and improved HDR support. That said, it remains to be seen how good Sony’s OLED screen will be, and how much their new PlayStation Portal will cost compared with its predecessor.
Sony’s PlayStation Portal is already a popular device, and Sony’s clearly trying to give its fans a better quality streaming experience. That said, it remains to be seen how much their new Portal OLED handheld will cost. Furthermore, will other aspects of the device improve with this new version? If Sony pairs an OLED upgrade with improved Wi-Fi connectivity, the new Portal would be a major step forward. However, will this upgrade come with a price increase? Will this new model replace the original PlayStation Portal, or act as a high-end “PRO” version?
