Pokémon Fire Red and Leaf Green are coming to Switch
Nintendo will celebrate Pokémon Day 2026 with new Switch versions of Fire Red and Leaf Green
On February 27th (Pokémon Day 2026), Nintendo will celebrate 30 years of Pokémon by bringing Pokémon Fire Red and Leaf Green to their Switch and Switch 2 consoles. These games are the definitive versions of Pokémon’s original Kanto adventure, released in 2004 for the Game Boy Advance.
Using local communications, these new Switch versions will support Pokémon trading, battling, and more. Both games will be available on Switch/Switch 2 for £16.99 (each) through Nintendo’s eShop. Note that these games support only one language, so make sure you purchase the correct version.
Sadly, trading and other networking features will be limited to the game’s new Switch versions. So there will be no trading between the game’s original Game Boy Advance and new Switch versions.
On Switch, these games will be a mere 39MB download, and Nintendo has confirmed that they will support their Switch Pro controller. The contents of both games are the same as their original release. Note that gamers won’t need a Switch Online membership to own or play these games. Furthermore, the game isn’t coming to the Game Boy Advance Classics Collection.
