Apple CEO Tim Cook to step down – Successor named

Apple will have a new CEO on September 1st

Apple has announced that Tim Cook will soon step down as CEO and take on a new role as “Apple Executive Chairman”. He will be stepping down on September 1st, after which John Ternus will become Apple’s CEO.

John Ternus is Apple’s Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering. He has led Apple’s hardware engineering organisation since 2021. He oversees the teams behind iPhone, Mac, AirPods, Apple Watch, and Vision Pro. He has been with Apple since 2001, serving on the Design Team, and later became the vice president of Hardware Engineering in 2013.

Johny Srouji has been named Apple’s new Chief Hardware Officer, effective immediately. He takes on the role that John Ternus previously occupied, allowing Ternus to work with Tim Cook until September 1st, when he officially becomes CEO.

A new era for Apple

Tim Cook joined Apple in 1998 and has served as its CEO since 2011. During his time as CEO, Apple’s market cap has grown from $350 billion to $4 trillion. He has seen Apple transition from Intel CPUs to Apple Silicon and has seen iPhone become dominant in many regions. Today’s Apple is a technological powerhouse, so it makes sense that its next CEO will have a hardware background.

Apple has confirmed that Tim Cook isn’t retiring. He will be stepping into a new role on September 1st. Tim Cook will become “Apple Executive Chairman”. This means that Tim Cook’s time with Apple is not over. He will continue to work with policymakers and executives well into the future.
