ASUS unveils its ROG Rapture GT-BN98 Pro WIFI 8 router
ASUS’ first WIFI 8 router has been revealed, the ROG Rapture GT-BN98 Pro. The router has been revealed in an award listing for Computex 2026, winning a Category Award for “Gaming and Immersive Tech”. This listing was first spotted by Videocardz.
ASUS first teased its ROG WIFI 8 routers at CES 2026, showcasing a prototype “NeoCore” router design with an unusual icosahedron shape (also known as a D20). Sadly, the ROG Rapture GT-BN98 Pro features a design similar to that of existing ROG routers. While its tech has been upgraded, its design is similar to what came before.
The Computex listing below boasts “future-proof” specifications for this ROG router. The router is listed with multiple “10Gbps wired ports”, “advanced spectrum management”, and a “Multi-AP coordination architecture”. We will see more detailed specifications for this router at Computex, though as it stands this router is very impressive.
Winning Reason
As a pioneer in the networking industry, the ROG Rapture GT-BN98 Pro introduces WiFi 8 and a Multi-AP coordination architecture, integrating intelligent path optimization, dynamic bandwidth management, and a patented thermal design. It is engineered to meet the rigorous demands for low latency, high stability, and sustained performance in high-density connection environments. Beyond leading-edge specifications, the GT-BN98 Pro excels by transforming complex network tuning, security management, and device load balancing into an intuitive user experience, providing a future-proof wireless solution for gaming, streaming, and smart home ecosystems.
Product Feature
The ROG Rapture GT-BN98 Pro is a flagship gaming router featuring next-gen WiFi 8 technology. It leverages advanced spectrum management and multi-link transmission to maximize bandwidth efficiency and minimize latency. Even in high-density environments, it ensures stable connectivity for gaming, 8K streaming, and cloud apps. Equipped with 10Gbps wired ports, it seamlessly integrates NAS and workstations for professional-grade networking. Exclusive ROG gaming acceleration prioritizes traffic to reduce lag and congestion, while ASUS AiMesh support enables seamless whole-home coverage. Combining extreme performance with scalability, the GT-BN98 Pro is a future-ready platform built for the era of AI, XR, and smart home ecosystems.
Why WIFI 8 is different
WIFI 8 isn’t like prior WIFI standards. WIFI 6, WIFI 6E, and WIFI 7 all focused on speed. With WIFI 8, the focus shifts to range and reliability. With this new standard comes the promise of more stable connections. Furthermore, it promises smoother roaming and improved speeds at range.
If you weren’t impressed by what the last few WIFI standards delivered, perhaps WIFI 8 is what you are looking for. More stable performance at increased ranges.
Wi-Fi 8 includes technologies like Distributed Resource Units (DRUs) and Enhanced Long Range (ELR) to improve performance. Other additions, such as Unequal Modulation (UEQM), aim to ensure that multiple devices can achieve optimal connections, preventing one data stream from slowing another. New multi-access point coordination will also allow numerous mesh nodes and repeaters to work together. This reduces interference, preventing two nodes from competing when their signals overlap.
At Computex, we will get a glimpse of what WIFI 8 will deliver. Let’s hope the standard delivers on its promises.
