Rockstar Games workers for a Union ahead of GTA VI’s launch
The Rockstar Games Workers Union forms ahead of GTA VI’s launch
In October 2025, Rockstar Games suddenly fired 31 employees. All of these employees were trying to form a union. Rockstar and Take-Two have claimed that their firings were due to gross misconduct and face legal action over the firings. Now, the Rockstar Games Workers Union has been officially launched as part of the Independent Workers Union of Great Britain (IWGB Union). This union has been leading the charge against Rockstar on behalf of the employees fired in 2025.
To publicly launch their union, the IWGB Union released a video called “The Video GTA Fans Have Been Waiting For”, no doubt playing to the desires of gamers to see a new Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer.
The video recaps the events of the past year. The dismissal of 31 employees, the protests at Rockstar’s offices, and the UK government’s commitment to investigate the matter. Workers have joined the union from all Rockstar Games sites. This includes Edinburgh, Leeds, London, Lincoln, and Dundee. The union has called for “pay transparency, flexible working, and an end to crunch.”
Rockstar has been accused of “union busting” due to their sudden firing of 31 workers last year. This action has led to the creation of a union encompassing developers across all of Rockstar Games’ sites. Note that this union formation comes six months ahead of GTA VI’s release date. With the game likely to earn the company billions, the presence of a strong union may lead Rockstar Games to pass more of its profits on to its employees. That would be a good result for those working hard to make the game what it is.
