Unreleased Nvidia RTX 2080 Ti SUPER GPU spotted with big upgrades
Nvidia did develop an RTX 2080 Ti SUPER graphics card, but it was never released
A Reddit user called “tendermeemay” has spotted an engineering sample for Nvidia’s unreleased GeForce RTX 2080 Ti SUPER graphics card. If this GPU was released, it would have been Nvidia’s RTX 20 series “Turing” flagship, with some significant upgrades over Nvidia’s RTX 2080 Ti.
For starters, this new GPU features 12GB of GDDR6 memory. This GPU has more memory than Nvidia’s 11GB RTX 2080 Ti and a wider memory bus (384-bit vs 352-bit). This gives this new “SUPER” GPU more memory and more memory bandwidth. Note that this isn’t the only upgrade that Nvidia’s “SUPER” engineering sample has.

Major upgrades over a standard RTX 2080 Ti
The specifications of this new GPU also showcase a higher CUDA core count, higher memory clock speeds, and higher GPU core clock speeds. Together, these changes could have made Nvidia’s RTX SUPER series engineering sample much faster than its non-SUPER variant.
This GPU has 4608 CUDA cores, which is 256 more than a standard RTX 2080 Ti. It also uses 16Gbps GDDR6 memory, which is 14.2% faster than the RTX 2080 Ti’s memory. With its wider 384-bit memory bus and faster memory, this GPU offers around 25% more total memory bandwidth. Additionally, this GPU has listed base/boost clock speeds of 1410/1650 MHz. That’s 60/105 MHz faster than a standard RTX 2080 Ti.
(Nvidia RTX 2080 Ti SUPER Engineering Sample Specifications)
This GPU is an engineering sample of an unreleased product. The GPU’s cooler has unique black elements not found on other RTX 20 SUPER series GPUs, and it lacks “RTX 2080 Ti SUPER” branding. This implies that Nvidia axed this product before they manufactured finalised cooler designs for this specific GPU model.
Since this is an engineering sample for an unreleased product, it is unlikely to work with modern Nvidia GPU drivers. As such, this GPU isn’t that useful as a gaming product. Regardless, it is an interesting look at Nvidia’s plans for its original RTX “SUPER” series GPU. Yes, Nvidia never released an RTX 2080 Ti SUPER, but they could have. Based on this engineering sample, it would have featured higher clock speeds, more CUDA cores, and more/faster memory. A solid upgrade.
