Nvidia issues new “GeForce Security Update” for its Maxwell and Pascal GPUs

Nvidia releases “GeForce Security Update” for its Maxwell, Pascal, and Volta GPUs

Last year, Nvidia ended its “Game Ready” driver support for its Maxwell, Pascal, and Volta series GPUs. This week, Nvidia released a new “GeForce Security Update” for its classic gaming GPUs, including the Pascal GTX 1080 Ti. This is Nvidia’s GeForce Security Driver 582.66 WHQL.

These new drivers are for Windows 10 and Windows 11 PC users and only support Nvidia Maxwell, Pascal and Volta series GPUs. These GPUs are no longer supported by Nvidia’s mainstream “Game Ready” GPU drivers.

NVIDIA has released a software security update display driver for Maxwell, Volta, and Pascal-series GeForce GPUs which are no longer supported by Game Ready Drivers. This update addresses multiple issues that may lead to security impacts.

Sadly, Nvidia’s release notes for this driver do not list the issues it addresses. Based on Nvidia’s release notes for this driver, Nvidia did not implement any general bug fixes or other fixes with this new driver release. All “Open Issues” remain as part of these drivers. This makes sense, as this driver focuses exclusively on security and Nvidia is not giving its older GPUs full driver support.

Below are the GPUs that are supported by Nvidia’s new GeForce Security Update. Note that users of newer Nvidia GPUs should update to Nvidia’s newest mainstream GPU drivers.
