Apple reportedly cancels its M6 Pro and M6 Max chips to focus on M7
Apple reportedly skips M6 Pro and M6 Max chips as M7 versions target 2027
Apple reportedly plans to launch new M6 versions of its Mac products later this year. However, according to Bloomberg, higher-end versions of Apple’s M6 silicon will reportedly be skipped. Apple is reportedly cancelling its M6 Pro and M6 Max series products, shifting its focus to newer M7 variants targeting a late 2027 launch.
Apple’s M6 chip reportedly features an upgraded memory architecture, a new Neural Engine, and notable GPU changes. Bandwidth-wise, the M6 reportedly delivers around 200 GB/s, which is a significant upgrade over the M5’s 153 GB/s.
With M7, Apple is reportedly focusing more on AI performance. M7-series Apple devices should have strong on-device AI capabilities and feature additional memory performance enhancements. This implies the device has a more powerful Neural Engine. M7 will reportedly feature around 240 GB/s of memory bandwidth, which is a significant upgrade over M5 and M6.
The company, currently on its M5 series, plans to debut a base M6 processor as early as this year for entry-level Macs, according to people with knowledge of the matter. But in a first, the company will skip higher-end versions of that chip, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the plans are private.

Apple reportedly plans to release its M5 Ultra chips this year for new Mac Studio devices. This should be Apple’s last M5 series processor. M5 Ultra will reportedly feature up to 36 CPU cores and 80 GPU cores. Exact memory configurations for M5 Ultra remain unknown. Apple has reportedly tested M5 Ultra with up to 768GB, but memory shortages may make this product unviable.
Apple’s M7, M7 Pro, and M7 Max reportedly target 2027 release dates. M7 Ultra reportedly targets a 2028 launch.
