Modder fixes Final Fantasy 7 Remake/Rebirth shader stutters on PC
Modder fixes shader compilation stutters in Final Fantasy VII Remake/Rebirth’s PC versions
A modder called Phroster has created mods for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade and Rebirth that address shader compilation stutters affecting both games on PC.
While these mods do not eliminate all stutters that may occur in either game, they allow both games to run much more smoothly than before. These mods compile PSOs asynchronously in the background. Once compiled, players should experience no shader compilation stutters. That said, each game’s traversal stutters or streaming-related stutters will be unaffected by these mods.
DX12 shader/pipeline stutter fix for Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade. Drop-in d3d12.dll proxy that reduces shader compilation hitches by compiling PSOs asynchronously in the background while keeping the game on native DirectX 12.

Sadly, Square Enix has failed to implement any shader pre-compilation steps for Final Fantasy VII Remake or Rebirth on PC. This has meant that modders have needed to step in to give PC gamers a better experience. Honestly, if nothing else, this mod showcases how little Square Enix cares about PC gamers. Today, shader compilation stutter mitigation is a vital part of modern PC games. Square Enix’s failure to address this issue in both of these high-profile games shows how little they care about making their games run optimally on PC. Let’s hope that this changes with Final Fantasy VII Revelation.
