Release date pushed forward for Onimusha: Way of the Sword to avoid GTA VI
Onimusha: Way of the Sword is launching three weeks earlier than expected
Capcom has officially announced that it is bringing the release date of Onimusha: Way of the Sword forward by three weeks. The Samurai action-adventure game will now be coming to PC and consoles on September 4th. On PC, the game will be launching on Steam, the Epic Games Store, and the Microsoft Store.
By bringing the game’s release date forward, Capcom has shifted the release of its game further away from Grand Theft Auto VI. GTA 6 will be released on November 19th, and game publishers are avoiding that release timeframe at all costs. Grand Theft Auto VI is practically guaranteed to be a smash hit, and not many gamers are expected to be buying other games around its launch window.
With its earlier release date, Capcom hopes that Onimusha: Way of the Sword will get more media attention and achieve stronger sales numbers. Gamers who purchase Onimusha will have more than two months to save for Grand Theft Auto VI. Capcom believes that this time will make a difference.

– PDT: September 25, 2026, 4:59 PM
– EDT: September 25, 2026, 7:59 PM
– BST: September 26, 2026, 00:59The demo version currently available will receive an update in the future. Please note, this update will not include any new content. Players who keep the save data from the demo version will get a bonus to use in the full game.
The game’s launch is two months away! We thank you for your continued support of Onimusha: Way of the Sword.

Moving this game’s release date forward also places it ahead of other highly anticipated titles. This includes Marvel’s Wolverine and Control: Resonant. Both of these games are releasing later in September.
Pre-orders for Onimusha: Way of the Sword are available now. Gamers who purchase the game before September 24th will receive “Early Adopter Bonuses”. These include unique charms and sword appearances.
