EA confirms Nvidia GeForce RTX 50 series crashes in Battlefield 6 – Recommends driver rollback
EA recommends Nvidia GeForce driver rollbacks for its new water-filled maps
Battlefield Studios has recommended that Nvidia GeForce GPU users roll back their GPU drivers to version 596.49, stating that GeForce GPUs are crashing Battlefield 6 maps with “large bodies of water, including Tsuru Reef”.
Based on the Studio’s data, Battlefield Studios says that crashes are “more concentrated” for PC gamers with RTX 50 series GPUs. However, the issue does seem to affect other Nvidia GPUs, albeit less aggressively. EA are currently working with Nvidia to identify the issue and release a fix.
Below is what Battlefield Studios had to say about the issue.
Known Issue: NVIDIA GPU Driver Crashes on Certain Maps
We’re investigating an issue on PC where some players may experience a GPU driver crash when playing on maps with large bodies of water, including Tsuru Reef.
Based on our current data, the issue appears to affect NVIDIA GPUs, with reports more concentrated among players using GeForce RTX 50 Series cards. The issue does not appear to affect all players using these GPUs.
While we continue working with NVIDIA to identify a resolution, players experiencing repeated driver crashes are advised to temporarily roll back to NVIDIA driver version 596.49.
If crashes continue after rolling back, please share your GPU model, driver version, affected map, and any available crash report details in our Technical Issues page on our EA Forums, to help us narrow down the cause. We’ll provide another update as soon as we have more information. Thank you for your patience while we investigate.

With the introduction of water-heavy maps with Battlefield 6’s Season 4 on July 21st, EA has been quick to identify this crashing issue and advise their players. AMD GPUs appear unaffected by this bug. While the issue appears concentrated on Nvidia RTX 50 series GPUs, other Nvidia GPUs are affected when playing the new Season 4 maps for Battlefield 6.
Note that EA’s driver recommendation is GeForce 596.49, which is a driver from May 2026. This recommendation implies that all of Nvidia’s recent graphics drivers can crash when playing Battlefield 6. It is likely that Nvidia will release a GeForce HotFix driver to address this issue soon (if they can quickly identify the cause).
