Xbox confirms strict security requirements for Modern Warfare 4 beta

The PC version of Modern Warfare 4 has tight security requirements for online modes

Activision has confirmed that the PC beta for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 requires both Secure Boot and TPM 2.0 for security.

Both features are required for online game modes. This means that PCs without these features will only have access to offline game modes. This should mean that the beta’s included campaign mission will be accessible.

• Both TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot are required to play. Players who do not meet requirements will be restricted from playing any online game mode.

Note: PCs using Windows 11 likely already have both security features enabled, as they are required for the operating system. Windows 10 systems will require updates if TPM is disabled or if a legacy TPM version (1.0 – 1.2) is enabled. While TPM 2.0 requires Windows 10 version 20H2 or later, Call of Duty requires Windows 10 version 22H2 or later.

The Modern Warfare 4 Beta has stricter security than Black Ops 7

For Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, PCs without TPM 2.0 and secure boot were not allowed to access certain online game modes. This includes ranked play. Player playlists without these features may also be placed in matchmaking pools with other players who did not meet these security requirements.

With Modern Warfare 4, all online modes are made unavailable to players without TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot enabled. This means that only offline content is available to players with PCs that lack these features (or have them disabled).

What are TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot

The Trusted Platform Module 2.0 (TPM 2.0) is a technology that provides hardware-based security on PCs with supported processors. Secure Boot helps protect against low-level cheats by allowing only trusted software to load during a PC’s startup.

These features are intended to prevent certain cheats from affecting Call of Duty games. All modern PC CPUs support TPM 2.0, and Windows 11 has Secure Boot enabled by default.

It’s currently unknown whether these security requirements are exclusive to Modern Warfare 4’s beta. It is probable that these security requirements will apply to the full game when it releases.
