Alan Wake 2 gains AMD FSR 4 support and other upgrades

Alan Wake 2 receives major tech upgrades ahead of Control: Resonant’s launch

Remedy has released an update for Alan Wake 2 that delivers several AMD-focused tech upgrades. These upgrades arrive on PC with update 1.2.10, which adds FSR 4 support for supported AMD GPUs alongside FSR Frame Generation.

Additionally, graphical features like Shader Executed Reordering and Opacity Micromaps have now been reimplemented with Microsoft’s Agility SDK. This enables cross-vendor GPU support for these features, which is great news for non-Nvidia GPU owners. Previously, these features were only implemented for Nvidia GPUs using Nvidia software.

This update comes one month before the release of Control Resonant. This update suggests these changes are already in Control Resonant, which is good news for PC gamers with non-Nvidia hardware. That said, Alan Wake 2 and Control Resonant will remain Nvidia-allied games. After all, Alan Wake 2 still has Nvidia features with no AMD or Intel alternatives like DLSS Ray Reconstruction and RTX Mega Geometry. While XeSS is supported in Alan Wake 2, XeSS Frame Generation and Multi Frame Generation are missing.

Other changes with this update include fixes for New Game Plus progression, audio synchronisation issues, and other bugs. Full patch notes for PC update 1.2.10 are available below.

Great news for future PC users

Alan Wake 2’s newest update is good news for non-Nvidia GPU users. Support for features like Shader Executed Reordering and Opacity Micromaps using Microsoft’s Agility SDK enables them on non-Nvidia hardware. That said, these features are not fully supported on current-generation AMD and Intel GPUs. Regardless, this change will improve Alan Wake 2 for future AMD and Intel GPU users. It could also improve Alan Wake 2 on Xbox “Project Helix” if it indeed supports PC games.
