Nvidia DLSS 5 Neural Rendering (NR) now works on AMD Radeon GPUs

Nvidia’s DLSS Neural Rendering tech now runs on AMD graphics cards

A modder named Daniel Blanco has successfully ported Nvidia’s DLSS 5 Neural Rendering (NR) technology to AMD graphics cards. Right now, the mod is available on GitHub and allows users of modern AMD GPUs to use Nvidia’s DLSS Neural Rendering tech in “any DirectX 12 game that uses FSR.

Right now, the problem with this DLSS 5 implementation is that it’s slow. While software updates have already delivered significant performance improvements, it still runs Cyberpunk 2077 at 28 FPS at 1080p on a Radeon RX 9070 XT. Regardless, it’s impressive that this tech is working on AMD GPUs to begin with.

In time, the mod’s creator hopes to make DLSS NR fast enough on a Radeon RX 9070 XT to rival Nvidia’s RTX 5070 Ti. Whether or not this is achievable remains to be seen.

Run DLSS 5 Neural Rendering on AMD Radeon RX 9000 (RDNA4) cards, in any DirectX 12 game that uses FSR.

What to expect

Output quality is very similar to what the official DLSS gets, though there are still some effects that may not be working 100%.

Performance is still WIP: roughly 28 fps at 1080p on an RX 9070 XT. I’m improving performance every day, goal is to get it to run as fast as a 5070Ti. Check back for new releases.

(Ancient Gameplays shows DLSS-NR on AMD working)

Modders have been going wild with Nvidia’s DLSS 5 technology. Gamers can already run DLSS 5 on Nvidia RTX 40, RTX 30, and even RTX 20 series GPUs. That said, Nvidia’s older GPU architectures lack the AI performance needed to make DLSS NR run at high frame rates.

Honestly, it’s crazy that DLSS NR now works on AMD hardware. I guess that’s what happens when the tech runs on generic AI compute and does not require specialised hardware features to operate. While DLSS NR doesn’t run well on AMD hardware right now, that could soon change. Well done to Daniel Blanco for getting DLSS 5 running on AMD GPUs. I personally wasn’t expecting to see anything like this until AMD inevitably releases “FSR 5”.
