Xbox saves Kojima’s PHYSINT after Sony cancellation
Xbox steps in to save PHYSINT after PlayStation steps away
In June 2026, PlayStation Studios informed Kojima Productions that it was cancelling its PHYSINT project, a new action-espionage game with the potential to become the next Metal Gear. After months of searching, Kojima Productions has partnered with Xbox to complete the project. PlayStation’s loss has become Xbox’s gain.
With this move, Xbox has expanded its relationship with Kojima Productions beyond OD, an in-development horror game. Now, Xbox is working with Kojima Productions on two gaming projects. Xbox has also stated that its “relationship will also extend beyond games”, with Xbox collaborating with Kojima Productions “across film and television to bring new stories to broader audiences.”
PHYSINT was unveiled as a PlayStation exclusive in 2024; now the game is likely to be an Xbox exclusive. Right now, PHYSINT and OD have no confirmed release dates.

Sony has stated that it has decided to “step away” from PHYSINT, but that its wider relationship with Kojima Productions “remains strong”. Both OD and PHYSINT are expected to be next-generation games for Xbox “Project Helix”.
