GeForce partners “cannot purchase” RTX 5090 GPUs from Nvidia
Nvidia has denied reports that its RTX 5090 is discontinued, but partners claim they can’t order any
While Nvidia has claimed that its RTX 5090 graphics card hasn’t been discontinued, sources from GeForce board partners (via der8auer) claim Nvidia is no longer accepting orders for it. Not even backorders are possible.
Recent reports claim Nvidia has allocated all GB202 chips to its RTX Pro series GPUs. If true, this means that Nvidia has effectively cancelled its RTX 5090 and allocated all of its silicon to more expensive/profitable products.
When asked for comment by der8auer, Nvidia said the following;
The supply chain “capacity” is indeed somewhat constrained, but Nvidia is going all out to bring products to market. Although there are other variants of the RTX 5090 (chip), it has definitely not been discontinued. Nvidia will continue to ship it, and this is very important.

There is a clear discrepancy between Nvidia’s statement and the unofficial statement of Nvidia’s AIB partner. That said, Nvidia only needs to intend to bring back its RTX 5090 to say the product hasn’t been discontinued. Perhaps today’s low-supply situation is temporary. If something happens that greatly reduces AI GPU demand, you can bet that Nvidia’s RTX 5090 will return to market.
In a separate statement from an unnamed OEM cooler manufacturer, two of their partners have already reduced their orders for RTX 5090 heatsinks. For Q2 2027, the company has no orders for RTX 5090 models. This statement makes it clear that fewer RTX 5090 heatsinks are being produced.
Will the RTX 5090 return?
Yes, Nvidia’s RTX 5090 is available to purchase, but not at prices that any normal consumer would consider reasonable. If recent rumours are true, Nvidia are allocating its resources towards its most profitable products. RTX Pro GPUs are more profitable than GeForce RTX 5090 GPUs, and that incentivises Nvidia to focus on RTX Pro. If the GPU market and supply chains shift, Nvidia could easily produce more RTX 5090 GPUs. So if AI demand evaporates, or something else upends or lowers RTX Pro sales, Nvidia could easily pivot its supplies to GeForce products.
