Earlier than expected – RTX 5080 24GB launch timing leaks
Nvidia’s RTX 5080 24GB could launch as early as December
According to a report from ChannelGate, Nvidia has accelerated its plans to launch its RTX 5080 24GB graphics card. Nvidia reportedly plans to discontinue its RTX 5090 D V2 and RTX 5080 16GB GPUs in China, making its new 24GB RTX 5080 their new GeForce flagship.
It has been claimed that Nvidia could release its 24GB RTX 5080 as early as December, or release it in January 2027. This is earlier than the broader Q1 2027 timeframe that was previously leaked. While ChannelGate’s report focuses on the Chinese GPU market, it is worth noting that RTX 5080 16GB prices have skyrocketed in recent weeks in the UK. This aligns with the claim that Nvidia isn’t supplying new RTX 5080 16GB inventory. Nvidia may be clearing stock ahead of the 24GB model’s launch.

The exact specifications of Nvidia’s new RTX 5080 model are currently unknown. While the GPU’s name suggests it’s just an RTX 5080 GPU with a 50% memory capacity upgrade, it could feature other changes. This GPU could feature a higher TDP and higher clock speeds. Alternatively, it may feature faster GDDR7 memory modules.
Given today’s memory pricing, it is hard to see this GPU launching at a reasonable price. If RTX 5080 prices are already far above MSRP, won’t making a new high-memory version make matters worse?
