ASUS launches its ROG XG Station 3 GPU dock with Thunderbolt 5
ASUS’ new ROG XG Station 3 supports up to an RTX 5090 with Thunderbolt 5 bandwidth
ASUS has officially unveiled its new ROG XG Station 3, an external GPU dock that supports Thunderbolt 5 connectivity. With this dock, users can connect their systems to external GPUs from AMD, Intel, and Nvidia, including Nvidia’s RTX 5090 and RTX PRO 6000 series GPUs.
With Thunderbolt 5, this dock supports double the bandwidth of prior-generation GPU docks. Using Thunderbolt 5, this dock supports 80 Gbps of bidirectional bandwidth, which can be boosted to 120 Gbps in one direction with Thunderbolt 5 Bandwidth Boost. This dock is backwards compatible with Thunderbolt 4 laptops, though these systems will operate at 40 Gbps.
This is also the first ROG XG Station that supports GC-HPWR graphics cards. This allows this dock to support ASUS BTF graphics cards, to be connected and powered by this dock without visible cables.
Choose your PSU
The ROG XG Station 3 supports SFX/SFX-L PSUs, letting users choose power supplies with appropriate power levels for connected GPUs. This means users can invest in high-power PSUs if they plan to use high-powered GPUs like Nvidia’s RTX 5090, and lower-power PSUs when using lower-end graphics cards. This makes the ROG XG Station 3 upgradable, letting users upgrade the connected GPU and internal PSU. Note that neither a GPU or PSU are supplied with the XG Station 3.
With ASUS BTF GPUs, gamers can power their GPUs without any visible GPU cables. The XG Station 3 supports up to 140W of power delivery to connected laptops, allowing it to charge compatible laptops. It also has a downstream Thunderbolt 5 port that supports up to three connected 4K displays and provides up to 36W of power. The dock also features two USB-C 10 Gbps ports for additional connectivity.
The ROG XG Station 3 delivers boosted bandwidth for high-end users
The new XG Station 3 offers users maximised bandwidth for connected graphics cards. This maximises the performance of connected GPUs and systems, especially in complex mixed workloads. While this device supports Thunderbolt 4 and USB4 devices, you can achieve maximum performance only with Thunderbolt 5 PCs.
