Gigabyte X670E Aorus Master Review

Introduction

The past few weeks have been crazy in terms of hardware launches. It’s almost been a perfect encapsulation of how long the lead and design times are for new hardware. The global pandemic might have been at its worst in 2020 but we’re only now seeing the main manufacturers launching their products as the world gets back up to speed. It has, however, meant everything turned up at once. So with due apologies that we’re getting to the AMD AM5 motherboards a little later than planned, let’s delay no longer.

Gigabyte spent some time in the wilderness of the hardware world. They slightly went down the wrong path a few times and for a time, in a manner akin to AMD themselves in the Phenom days, we wondered if they’d be able to find their way back to the light. Oh us of little faith. The Aorus range is Gigabyte’s take up the ASUS ROG or MSI MEG idea in that it’s a product range for those who can’t stand compromise. It’s been a wild success and Gigabyte deserve all the plaudits for having the bravery to go all in on a new brand and making it work so well.

The X670E Aorus Master is their high-end AM5 motherboard, and we are desperate to see how well it compares to the rest, so let’s crack on.

Technical Specifications

If there is one thing we love from the modern design philosophy of motherboards is how modular they are. Power stages, manufacturer specific features, board design and the all-important customisation and lighting effects are all transferrable from one board to another. It means that we can focus upon what is actually new, rather than showing you things of which you are already aware. The AM5 X670E Aorus Master is the perfect example of this. 16+2+2 105A power stages are similar to those we saw on recent Intel motherboards. It’s great to see AM5 finally bringing together all the 5s though with PCI Express 5.0, DDR5 and.. Smart Fan 6. Oh. Okay some of the 5s then.

Specification pages are all well and good, but let’s do what we’re really here for and show you it in the flesh.
