The ultimate Steam Machine-like PC case for Mini-ITX builds?

Is this the ultimate 3D printable PC case for a home-built Steam Machine?

After his original 3D Printable Steam Machine Mini ITX PC case went viral, 3DCatt started working on a new version of the case based on fan feedback. While the original case was the same size as Valve’s official Steam Machine, it required many compromises to support standard PC hardware.

With their new version, 3DCatt has made their custom Steam Machine case design larger to support Mini-ITX motherboards in a more standard configuration. This enables full-sized GPU support, large CPU cooler support, and either FLEX ATX or SFX PSU support.

This new Steam Machine-like PC case can support GPUs up to 200mm long. This includes PowerColor’s RX 9060 XT 16GB Reaper GPU. This allows PC builders to easily craft a custom Steam Machine with a GPU that’s more powerful than Valve’s official version.

Flex ATX or SFX PSU support

Two backplates for this PC case are available. One supports a Flex ATX PSU and a 120/140mm rear fan. The other supports an SFX PSU and a 92mm rear fan.

Note that this custom PC case uses a solid side panel, which limits the airflow to any installed GPUs. If I were to 3D print this Steam Machine-style PC case, I would add ventilation to the side of the PC case to enable more GPU-focused airflow.

While this case doesn’t deliver great airflow as-is, it does deliver Valve’s Steam Machine aesthetic in a form factor that’s suitable for PC hardware. At 220mm x 220mm x 220mm, it’s an incredibly small PC case. While thermals could be an issue inside the PC case, it’s likely that modders will be able to address these concerns with added vents or an altered front panel design. Remember, Valve built its Steam Machine with front panel customisation. If anything, doing the same to this 3D printed version only makes it more Steam Machine-like.
