AMD confirms Socket AM5 support until 2029

AMD extends its plans to support Socket AM5 for several years

At Computex 2026, AMD reaffirmed its longstanding commitment to the AM5 CPU socket, extending its support plans. Previously, AMD planned to support socket AM5 until 2027+. Now, AMD has extended its socket AM5 support through 2029. AMD’s current-generation CPU socket will continue to receive support well into the future.

This support practically guarantees that AMD’s AM5 socket will receive support past Zen 6. While AMD has not confirmed Zen 7 support for this socket, this seems increasingly likely. This follows rumours from last year that AMD were reworking its AM5 support plans to include Zen 7.

AMD will likely move to its next-generation (AM6?) CPU socket when DDR6 memory becomes readily available. Even then, AMD might not adopt DDR6 memory as soon as it launches. After all, early DDR6 memory will be expensive, and DDR5 memory may be more cost-effective during this period.

AMD’s AM5 support plans ensure that today’s AM5 motherboard users will have CPU upgrade options well into the future. Even AMD AM5 newcomers should receive upgrade options on the socket. After all, both Zen 6 and Zen 7 are now expected to support the platform.
