AMD’s Ryzen 9 9950X3D 2 is now available in the UK
AMD has just released its Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 CPU, targeting creators with its huge dual-V-Cache setup. Unlike the standard Ryzen 9 9950X3D, this new model features L3 V-Cache on both of its 8-core CCDs. This gives AMD’s new 16-core CPU 192MB of total L3 cache.
At Overclockers UK, this new CPU is priced at £799.99. This makes this CPU £221 more expensive than a Ryzen 9 9950X3D. Whether or not this is a worthwhile upgrade depends on your use case. Some workloads benefit from extra L3 cache and the increased consistency that dual X3D CPU CCDs offer. For other workloads, the benefits of its extra L3 V-Cache chiplet will be minor.
Compared with the Ryzen 9 9950X3D, AMD’s new X3D2 Dual Edition GPU can complete many complex workloads faster. Below, we can see performance gains of 5-13%. Note that AMD has not provided data comparing the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Dual Edition to its non-X3D Ryzen 9 9950X.

High pricing for a premium product
AMD’s Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Dual Edition CPU is the company’s fastest and most expensive AM5 CPU to date. To achieve this level of raw multi-threaded performance, users will need to purchase Ryzen Threadripper 9000-series CPUs. That said, these CPUs lack L3 V-Cache.
Overall, AMD’s Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 CPU is a compelling product, though its high pricing premium gives AMD’s existing 9950X3D a stronger value proposition for many users. If you are a heavy user and could see your workloads benefitting from more L3 cache, this could be the upgrade you’ve been waiting for. That said, for generic use cases, this CPU is very expensive.
