AMD Zen 6 is “on track” for 2025 release – report claims
Ryzen 9000 may have a short lifespan, as AMD reportedly targets 2025 launch for Zen 6
Update – AMD has confirmed that they did not reveal or confirm the release timeframe of their Zen 6/Zen6c architectures. Tech Radar’s reporting is incorrect. Our original article follows.
According to a report from Tech Radar, AMD has confirmed that Zen 6 and Zen 6c CPUs are “on track for a release in 2025”. This means that AMD’s Zen 5 successor could arrive a lot sooner than expected, with many previously predicting a 2026 launch for the architecture.
AMD’s Zen 5 based Ryzen 9000 series CPUs are due to launch on July 31st. If AMD’s 2025 launch plans for Zen 6 are true, that means that the Ryzen 9000 series could have a lifespan of less than 18 months. If AMD launches Zen 5 in 2025, it is probable that it will come in late 2025. This means that the launch will likely be in Q3 or Q4.
Zen 6 is expected to be a major overhaul of AMD’s Zen architecture. The Zen 6 architecture reportedly utilised a new chiplet design with faster interconnects. This will increase the bandwidth and decrease the latencies of Zen 6 CPUs. This means that major changes will be coming to Zen 6’s I/O chip and memory controller.
Overall, Zen 6 appears to deliver larger changes than AMD’s Zen 5 CPU architecture. Zen 6 should deliver new CPU core architectural improvements, but they should arrive with a new chiplet design, faster memory support, and a larger lithography node transition.
