Fake AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPUs spotted in China

Fake AMD Ryzen CPUs have been spotted in China, including fake Ryzen 7 9800X3D chips

Uniko’s Hardware has uncovered the next wave of counterfeit AMD CPUs. Fake Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPUs have been spotted in China, with scammers hoping to take advantage of PC builders who want AMD’s fastest gaming CPU.

Below, we have a comparison between a real Ryzen 7 9800X3D and a newly emerged fake. The fake CPU has an incorrect PCB number, 325046, while the real 9800X3D had 33050, a legitimate number. Additionally, the phoney CPU model featured a greenish PCB, while the genuine AMD Ryzen CPU had a bluish PCB. Furthermore, the fake CPU had a different capacitor layout than a legitimate Ryzen CPU.

This is not the first time fake Ryzen CPUs have circulated. Last year, there were reports of fake Ryzen 7 7800X3D CPUs. However, it is worth noting that these fake CPUs have never been shipped in huge volumes.

Users of these fake CPUs will find that their systems do not boot. Since these are fake CPUs, their non-functionality should be expected. As always, PC builders should purchase their CPUs from trusted retailers, as this will ensure that they are purchasing a legitimate product. If you are buying a CPU second-hand, you should purchase it using a platform with strong consumer protections in place and from sellers with good reputations. That will allow you to minimise risk when purchasing second-hand products online.
