Gigabyte’s X470 Gaming 7 WiFi showcased at CES

Gamers Nexus have gotten to look at what is likely to be an AMD X470 series motherboard from Gigabyte, a motherboard that offers a 10-phase (plus two phases for memory) power design and a new VRM heatsink design that uses a full aluminium finstack to provide an unparalleled amount of surface area for heat dissipation.  

With 8+4 pin CPU power and a 10-phase CPU power design, the X470 Gaming 7 WiFi is clearly built to overclock 2nd Generation Ryzen processors, with the board’s enhanced heatsink design allowing the CPU’s power circuitry to remain cool under heavy loads. When compared to last-generation designs VRM temperatures are expected to plummet, even without directional airflow from fans, making the use of finned heatsinks a huge design win for Gigabyte.

At the base of this motherboard, two M.2 slots are visible, making it look like X470 offers the ability to utilise two full-speed M.2 SSDs on AMD’s new platform, something that was not possible X370 motherboards without any sacrifices. This change makes the leap from X370 to X470 look very similar to Intel’s jump from Z170 to Z270, expanding the I/O capabilities of their boards to deliver support for two M.2 SSDs.   

Other features on the X470 Gaming 7 WiFi from Gigabyte is its inclusion of an integrated I/O shield and its use of integrated WiFi. So far our only problem with this board s its orange accents, which will clash with this board’s RGB lighting in most colour combinations. We hope that Gigabyte will change this colour scheme to something more neutral before shipping this motherboard to consumers.

Gamers Nexus has also stated that AMD is aiming to support memory speeds of up to 4,000MHz with their second generation Ryzen CPUs, which is something that seems achievable given the fact that their 2000G series of Ryzen/Vega APUs have already been showcased using 3,600MHz memory on a 300-series motherboard. 

AMD is currently aiming to release their second generation Ryzen CPUs and X470 series motherboards in April.
