Intel has cancelled IDF (Intel Developer Forum) 2017, the event where the company usually launches their upcoming CPU architectures and other products.Â
Â
Over the past few years, this event has hosted the reveal of Intel’s Skylake and Kaby Lake CPU architectures and has been the place where Intel had announced their new Optane memory technology. The cancellation of this event after nearly 20 years has now left a huge gap in the calendars of PC fanatics, though Intel does plan on replacing IDF with a new suitable event for the company as it moves forward. Â

  Intel has evolved its event portfolio and decided to retire the IDF program moving forward. Thank you for nearly 20 great years with the Intel Developer Forum!
Intel has a number of resources available on intel.com, including a Resource and Design Center with documentation, software, and tools for designers, engineers, and developers. As always, our customers, partners, and developers should reach out to their Intel representative with questions.

Intel is moving away from being a PC-centric company, with the company changing rapidly to a more data-centric model with the rise of AI development and the Internet of things.Â

Now, IDF is not suitable for Intel to showcase and communicate everything that the company is working on to developers, media and other companies. Now Intel plans to split their message into several separate events which will allow the company to more accurately convey messages to their audience, rather than attempt to deliver the companies entire message in a singular event.Â

IDF is certainly a huge loss for PC enthusiasts, though be content that Intel has something else coming to replace it, which will hopefully be able to fill the void left by IDF’s absence.Â
