Intel Expands Binary Optimisation Tool support with 7 new games
Intel’s Binary Optimisation Tool now supports seven new games
Intel has updated its Binary Optimisation Tool to add support for seven new games, claiming a 12% average performance gain when using the tool. Now, the Intel Binary Optimisation Tool (IBOT) supports 19 games, and more are coming.
With today’s update, IBOT now supports Hollow Knight: Silksong, Homeworld 3, Little Nightmares III, Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, The Callisto Protocol, and Warframe.
What is IBOT?
Intel’s Binary Optimisation Tool (IBOT) is a specialised application within Intel’s Platform Performance Package (PPP) software. For IBOT, Intel analyses game machine code to assess how it runs on Intel hardware. Using this knowledge, Intel can intelligently redirect workloads to optimised execution paths, increasing game performance. This results in faster, more responsive games, especially during CPU-limited scenarios.
In a basic sense, Intel is using its knowledge of how games and CPUs work to make them run more optimally. While this requires game-specific analysis and profiles, the performance gains can be large. As the CPU market becomes increasingly competitive, Intel sees IBOT as a way to maintain an edge over its competitors.
With the addition of IBOT support, Intel’s seven newly supported games show an average performance gain of 12%. The worst example is Metro Exodus, which only sees a 2% performance gain. The best example is Hollow Knight: Silksong, which now runs 27% faster on Intel’s Ultra 7 270K PLUS. Intel’s benchmarks were taken at 1080p high settings with an Ultra 7 270K PLUS CPU and an RTX 5090 GPU.
Today, Intel’s IBOT tool is supported by Intel’s Core Ultra 200 PLUS series processors and selected Panther Lake CPUs. Note that not all Intel Core Ultra 300 series (Panther Lake) CPUs support IBOT.
Moving forward, Intel plans to utilise its IBOT tool to give itself a performance advantage in supported games. By expanding its list of supported games, Intel plans to gain a tangible advantage over its competitors across a range of titles. As of now, AMD appears to have no plans to create an equivalent tool, giving Intel a distinct advantage.
