Intel Panther Lake CPU and GPU performance leaks
Intel’s getting ready to launch its first Panther Lake-powered laptops
Intel is getting ready to launch its first Panther Lake-powered laptops. At IFA, Acer unveiled its first Intel Panther Lake system, the Swift 16 AI; however, the exact performance and specifications of Panther Lake are currently unknown. Now, Moore’s Law is Dead had leaked detailed performance information about Intel’s new notebook CPUs, including CPU/GPU performance numbers.
Based on leaked information, Intel’s Panther Lake laptop CPUs are expected to feature four Cougar Cove Performance Cores (P-Cores), eight Darkmont Efficiency Cores (E-cores), and four Darkmont Low Power Efficiency Cores (LPE-Cores). Overall, Intel’s Cougar Cove CPU cores are expected to deliver a 5-13% PC increase over Lunar Lake’s P-cores. However, they aren’t likely to feature much higher CPU clock speeds. As such, single-threaded performance levels aren’t expected to increase by much. However, multi-threaded performance is expected to increase significantly.
Overall, Panther Lake is expected to deliver Arrow Lake-H performance levels at near Lunar Lake levels of power consumption. This means that Intel can deliver increased performance levels at low power levels, which is great news for laptop users.
Panther Lake GPU performance
Intel’s Panther Lake graphics chip reportedly features 12 Celestial Execution Units. It reportedly delivers 15-30% more GPU performance without an increase in power draw. This gives Panther Lake much more gaming potential. When pushed to 45W power levels, it is expected to beat AMD’s Strix Point processors. Currently, the architectural details of Intel Celestial are unknown.
(Intel Panther Lake Leak – Moore’s Law is Dead)
Overall, Intel’s Panther Lake CPUs appear to be a solid step forward. However, they do not appear to be a transformative product for Intel. We expect solid performance gains over Lunar Lake. However, these performance gains may not be enough to regain Intel its dominant position in the laptop CPU market.
Panther Lake acts as a solid replacement for both Arrow Lake and Lunar Lake. That said, it doesn’t feel like a major leap forward for Intel. We expect Intel to unveil official Panther Lake information soon.
