Intel Panther Lake is launching this year and it “just raises the bar”
Panther Lake “Just Raises the Bar” over Lunar Lake – 18A CPUs are launching this year
At CES 2025, Intel interim co-CEO Michelle Johnston Holthaus showcased the company’s next-generation 18A âPanther Lakeâ chip on stage. Later, she confirmed that these new 18A CPUs will arrive in the second half of this year and that it “just raises the bar” over Lunar Lake.
Intel’s Lunar Lake processors are impressive. We did a deep dive into these CPUs last year, and they revolutionised Intel’s mobile CPU lineup. With enhanced CPU efficiency and battery life, they kicked Qualcomm’s competing ARM-based laptops to the curb. Lunar Lake confirmed that x86 CPUs can be efficient and that ARM-based laptops still have a long way to go.
It brings all the fantastic features that everyone loves in Lunar Lake, and just raises the bar.
With a launch that’s around one year after Lunar Lake, Panther Lake will be a relatively quick follow-up from Intel. While it remains unknown what Holthaus means by “raises the bar,.” However, our bet is that Intel will be delivering more performance while maintaining high levels of efficiency.

At CES, Intel showcased working Panther Lake systems that reportedly featured 12 CPU cores and 12 Xe3 GPU cores. Lunar Lake features eight CPU cores and eight Xe2 GPU cores. With Panther Lake, we expect new CPU/GPU architectures and more CPU/GPU cores than Lunar Lake. With this in mind, we expect a notable leap in overall system performance.
