Intel releases new microcode updates for Skylake series products
These issues were so harmful to customers that Microsoft had to release an optional Windows patch to disable Intel’s Spectre 2 mitigations in software, compromising security for the sake of stability. Now Intel has released a new microcode update for their Skylake-based products, which is expected to be releasing in OEM firmware updates soon.Â
Intel’s Navin Shenoy, the company’s executive vice president and general manager of their Data Center Group, has stated that they expect to release microcode updates for more platforms “in the coming days” while also supplying beta microcode to OEMs for testing purposes.Â

Hopefully, this will be the end of Intel’s Spectre firmware fiasco, as both consumers and enterprise users would not appreciate getting burned by dodgy firmware twice within the same quarter. The company’s reputation has already taken a massive hit because of Spectre and Meltdown, with recent attempts to address the issue in firmware causing nothing but problems for security conscious early adopters.Â
