MSI have now teased their new X299 Gaming motherboard, confirming quad-channel memory support and giving us a brief look at Intel’s new LGA 2066 CPU socket.

Noctua has already confirmed to us that LGA 2066 will be compatible with LGA 2011 coolers, with Intel deciding to use the same cooler mounting design as their existing LGA 2011 socket. This will allow older coolers and AIO Liquid coolers to be used with this new platform, making it very easy for users to transition to the latest Intel CPU platform.

With this new MSI design, we can also see that there is an 8-pin and a 4-pin CPU power connection, which will allow this motherboard to be fed over 140W of power. This is highly unusual for a mid-range gaming series motherboard, which suggests that some of Intel’s rumoured i9 series of Skylake-X CPUs may have TDPs of over 140W.
