Next-Gen Threadripper! ASRock's prepping TRX50 WS motherboards

ASRock’s working on new TRX50 WS Workstation motherboards for AMD’s Threadripper 7000 series processors

Thanks to ASRock’s latest EEC listing, it is now clear that AMD are planning to launch Ryzen Threadripper 7000 PRO series processors, revamping their High-End Desktop (HEDT) product line with DDR5 memory, Zen 4 CPU cores, and PCIe 5.0 connectivity.

Unfortunately, ASRock’s new motherboard listing only reveals the name of AMD’s new Threadripper CPU socket, “TRX50 WS”. With AMD’s last Threadripper Socket being called TRX40, TRX50 is AMD’s obvious successor to their last-generation Threadripper CPU platform.

With AMD’s Threadripper CPU platforms being based on their EPYC lineup of server processors, it is probable that AMD will released new Ryzen 7000 Threadripper processors that will feature up to 96 CPU cores, matching the company’s EPYC flagship. That said, AMD could decide to limit their CPUs to lower core counts, perhaps sticking to 64 cores like their last-generation Threadripper products.

Since AMD’s Zen 4 Threadripper CPUs add support for DDR5 memory and other advanced features, these new processors will require a new CPU socket and be incompatible with existing Threadripper motherboards. This is why companies like ASRock will need to create and release new TRX50 series motherboards in preparation for AMD’s Ryzen Threadripper 7000 series launch.
