Nvidia reportedly plans to cut RTX 50 series GPU production

Despite record gaming revenues, Nvidia reportedly plans to cut RTX 50 series production to allocate it to new AI hardware

Despite posting record revenues with its gaming segment, Nvidia reportedly plans to cut RTX 50 series GPU production by 20-30%. This move reportedly allows Nvidia to dedicate more production to its AI hardware, which is now Nvidia’s primary source of revenue.

If these claims are true, it is clear that gaming is no longer a priority for Nvidia. Gaming is a growing segment for Nvidia, but AI chips are now Nvidia’s bread and butter. Nvidia has stopped being a gaming company. They are now an AI company with a gaming side hustle.

Nvidia’s new GB300 series AI chips reportedly enter mass production this month, and it looks like Blackwell GPU production is taking a hit. This change comes as RTX 50 series GPU prices have started to stabilise, with Nvidia’s RTX 5090 becoming available below Nvidia’s MSRP in the UK.

Important Notice: RTX 50 Series Supply in June Reduced Compared to May

According to information from upstream manufacturers, the NVIDIA RTX 50 series product lineup has been mostly released. However, NV’s GPU production line has been unstable, and the most obvious result after the launch of the RTX 50 graphics cards is a shortage of supply.

The production lines for NVIDIA’s GB20X are already at full capacity. It’s understood that the new NV GB300 has started preparations for production since May and is expected to enter mass production by the end of 2025. Naturally, this will occupy wafer production capacity, which may affect the RTX 50 series production lines.

There are reports revealing that the overall supply of NV RTX 50 series GPUs has suddenly become tighter. The supply has been reduced, and the total GPU shipments for the RTX 50 series in the Chinese market in June have decreased compared to May — estimated to be reduced by around 20%-30%. The exact reason for this is completely unknown.

Nvidia’s changes to RTX 50 series GPU production could destabilise the world’s supply of graphics cards, potentially leading to higher prices. This would be bad news for gamers and could help Nvidia’s competitors gain market share at Nvidia’s expense.
