Qualcomm Snapdragon Elite X CPU bests Intel Meteor Lake in Early Tests

Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon X Elite SoC bests Intel’s Core Ultra 155H – High-end ARM chips for Windows have arrived!

Qualcomm are planning to shake up the mobile CPU market this year. Their new Snapdragon X Elite SoC aims to give Windows users a true high-end ARM CPU option. Now, early benchmarks for Qualcomm’s processor have been released, and they show Qualcomm’s new chip besting Intel’s Core 7 Ultra 155H. These are impressive results for Qualcomm.  This could be a sign that ARM may soon be a viable option for high-end Windows laptops.

The benchmarks in question came from a Qualcomm event at last month’s Mobile World Congress. At the event, a YouTuber recorded some benchmarks and has recently released a video showcasing them. The video below shows large performance wins in a few tests, and marginal victories for Qualcomm in others.

In the video below, Qualcomm’s major Snapdragon X Elite victories come in the form of a Visual Studio code compilation test and a UL Procyon AI test. For Visual Studio, Qualcomm’s CPU was around 46% faster than Intel’s Core 7 Ultra 155H. In UL’s Procyon AI test Qualcomm’s chip was a whopping 460% faster.

While all pre-release benchmarks should be taken with a grain of salt, it is clear that Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon chip is fast. Sadly, we will have to wait for proper reviews to see how this chip stacks up on a broader testing suite. Remember, Qualcomm can easily cherry pick their best results for showcases like this.

Regardless, these results could signal a bright future for ARM-based Windows devices. That said, Intel and AMD should soon be releasing their next generation of mobile CPUs. That will give Qualcomm stronger competition, making their new Snapdragon less appealing.
