AMD’s upcoming Ryzen 5 2600X CPU has appeared on the Geekbench database, revealing an early glimpse of the CPU’s performance in an existing X370 motherboard. 

This data matches up closely with previous Ryzen 2nd Generation leaks,  with this CPU model offering a listed base clock speed 3.6GHz, a 200MHz boost over the Ryzen 5 1600X. This leak comes soon after AMD’s Ryzen 7 2700X appeared on the same website (link). This system is said to be using 3200MHz DDR4 memory and an ASUS X370-Prime motherboard. The Ryzen 5 2600X will offer six cores and 12 threads, delivering a lot of parallelisation potential. 

The scores shown here reveals slightly higher single-core performance than the Ryzen 7 2700X, despite the fact that the CPU is said to have lower base/boost clock speeds, though this difference is likely because this system used 3200MHz memory while the 2700K-based system used slower 2400MHz memory. It seems that Ryzen 2nd Generation will continue to love high-speed DDR4 memory. 

Comparing this data to our own Ryzen 5 1600X results, we can see that the 2600X higher performance than its last generation counterpart, even when overclocked, revealing a worthy generation-generation performance boost. In terms of multi-threaded score, this 2600X processor beats our stock 1800X results with 2666MHz memory.

Previous leaks have suggested that Ryzen 2nd Generation products will not offer their best performance on existing 300-series AM4 motherboards, at least without overclocking.

AMD’s existing 300-series motherboards will reportedly lack support for a feature called Precision Boost Overdrive, which will allow AMD hardware to deliver higher boost clock speeds at intermediate and highly threaded workloads. This feature is said to only be available on 400-series motherboards, which means that the Ryzen 2600X could have some extra out of the box potential on newer motherboards.
