16GB GPUs dominate sales – retailer reports

Mindfactory report claims that 16GB graphics cards now account for almost 80% of GPU sales

Mindfactory, one of Germany’s top PC components retailers, has released its sales data for “week 33” of 2025 (August 11th -17th), and it has unveiled some interesting details about GPU purchasers. According to Mindfactory’s sales data, almost 80% of the GPUs sold by the company had 16GB of VRAM, accounting for the vast majority of sales.

Clearly, GPU buyers are saying no to graphics cards with lower amounts of VRAM. 79.3% of all GPUs sold had 16GB of VRAM. The remaining sales were for 12GB and 8GB graphics cards. For GPUs with 8GB and 16GB versions, gamers are choosing 16GB models more often. Furthermore, high-end 16GB GPUs like AMD’s Radeon RX 9700 series and Nvidia’s RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5080 are proving to be some of the most popular GPUs on the market.

When tested, reviewers have found that the 8GB versions of graphics cards like AMD’s RX 9060 XT and Nvidia’s RTX 5060 Ti are less performant than their 16GB counterparts. This is especially true for newer PC releases. 8GB of VRAM is not enough for many modern PC games, and gamers know it. That’s why most gamers are choosing graphics cards with 16GB of VRAM. This problem will only become larger as PC games become more advanced.
