Alternate sells RTX 5090 with Missing ROPs as B-Grade product

European retailer sells “missing ROPs” RTX 5090 as B-Grade product

What happened to those RTX 50-series GPUs with missing ROPs? When their owners return them, will they be recycled? Will they be destroyed? Alternate.de, a German retailer, has decided to resell their returned “missing ROPs” RTX 5090, classing it as a “B-Grade” product.

Videocardz has spotted a B-Grade Zotac RTX 5090 SOLID GPU on Alternate that has missing ROPs. Strangely, this GPU had a list price of €2899, which is much higher than Nvidia’s RTX 5090 MSRP. Since this GPU’s missing ROPs degrade its gaming performance, it is laughable that it is being sold for more than Nvidia’s baseline price.

This GPU listing is no longer visible on Alternate’s website. Currently, it is unknown if this GPU was sold, or if the retailer removed the listing for another reason.

The question raised by this GPU listing is whether a GPU like this should be resold. Given its lower-than-standard hardware specifications, the GPU should be considered faulty. However, everything about this GPU works as intended, aside from a single bank of ROPs. The GPU “works”, but should a known faulty product be resold? Even if the buyer knows it has missing ROPs, should a product like this be allowed to exist?
