AMD confirms “early 2025” launch for RDNA 4 and a “strong increase in gaming performance”
AMD promises a “strong increase in gaming performance” and “new AI capabilities” with RDNA 4
AMD has officially confirmed that their next-generation “RDNA 4” graphics cards will launch in “early 2025”. That’s what the company’s CEO, Lisa Su, confirmed during the company’s Q3 2024 earnings call.
During the call, Su stated that RDNA 4 would deliver a “strong increase in gaming performance”. Furthermore, she noted that the architecture delivered “significantly higher ray tracing performance” and that it “adds new AI capabilities”. As such, RDNA 4 is expected to be a big deal for AMD’s graphics business.
Below is what AMD’s Lisa Su had to say about RDNA 4.
In Gaming Graphics, revenue declined year-over-year as we prepare for a transition to our next-gen Radeon GPUs based on our RDNA 4 architecture. In addition to a strong increase in gaming performance, RDNA 4 delivers significantly higher ray tracing performance and adds new AI capabilities.
We are on track to launch the first RDNA 4 GPUs in early 2025.
AMD has previously stated that their RDNA 4 GPUs will not compete with Nvidia in the ultra-high-end market. However, Lisa Su’s claims of “a strong increase in gaming performance” suggest that RDNA 4 may best their current-generation RX 7900 XTX. While we do not expect to see an RTX 5090 competitor, we should still see strong RDNA 4 products.
We expect AMD to reveal its RDNA 4 graphics architecture at CES 2025. AMD’s GPUs will likely launch sometime in January 2025, allowing them to launch before their Nvidia RTX 50 series counterparts.
