AMD plans to capture 25% market share in China with new GPU push
AMD aims to take Chinese market share following GPU sales reshuffle
According to a report from MyDrivers, via Videocardz, AMD is targeting a 25% share of the discrete GPU market in China. This follows an alleged management reshuffle that has placed AMD’s GPU businesses under the control of the company’s CPU sales team in China. This change enables a more coordinated sales effort and may lead more of AMD’s CPU customers to adopt AMD GPUs.
This push comes after reports last month that Nvidia plans heavy cuts to GeForce GPU production. Nvidia is reportedly prioritising its most profitable products over its GeForce RTX gaming lineup. There are even reports that Nvidia plans to axe RTX 5060 Ti 16GB production entirely due to GDDR7 supply restrictions.
If Nvidia’s GPU production is lessened, potential shortages could push more customers to AMD. That said, it remains to be seen how memory shortages will impact AMD and its GPU production. If Nvidia can’t produce enough GPUs to meet demand, could AMD fill the gap?
Nvidia is the dominant player within the discrete GPU market. While AMD’s RDNA 4 products are popular in the DIY PC market, Nvidia dominates the OEM PC market. When it comes to laptops, almost all gaming systems utilise Nvidia discrete graphics cards.
