AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT to deliver near RTX 4080 performance levels

AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT to deliver near RTX 4080 performance in games

New posts on Chiphell from the leaker zhangzhonghau have revealed new details for AMD’s upcoming Radeon RX 9070 XT graphics card. The leaker claimed that the GPU had a base clock speed of 2.8 GHz and a boost clock speed between 3.0 and 3.1 GHz. Furthermore, AMD’s reference TDP for this GPU is reportedly 26xW, with aftermarket models having TDPs as high as 330W.

AMD’s current-generation Radeon RX 7800 XT has a boost frequency of 2430 MHz and a game frequency of 2124 MHz. Based on this new Radeon leak, AMD has managed to greatly increase its GPU clock speeds with their RDNA 4 graphics architecture. This should enable a notable leap in game performance for AMD’s newest GPUs.

This new leak also suggests that AMD’s new Radeon RX 9070 XT will deliver RTX 4080-like gaming performance, delivering performance levels “within 5%” of Nvidia’s offering. This would place AMD’s RX 9070 XT ahead of Nvidia’s RTX 4070 Ti and RTX 4070 Ti SUPER. That’s great news for AMD, assuming that they price this GPU aggressively.

If AMD can deliver RTX 4080 levels of gaming performance with lower pricing, AMD can gain significant market GPU share in 2025. If they price this GPU too high, AMD will lose this opportunity. AMD needs solid performance and appealing pricing to grab market share from Nvidia. If AMD fails to deliver this, they will be handing Nvidia a win.
